Operation
On most days, the AVV EvapAssist can be utilized as a conventional dry cooler. During dry operation, hot process fluid runs through finned coils, while centralized fans draw ambient air across the fins. This allows the heat to transfer from the fluid to the air, effectively cooling the fluid as the air is released to the atmosphere.
For hot days, this hybrid air cooled heat exchanger features evaporative media positioned on the air inlet sides. During adiabatic operation, a modest amount of water is introduced to saturate the media. As the water evaporates, the air is cooled. The pre-cooled air will subsequently cool the fluid circulating through the tubes, producing coolant temperatures near or below ambient.
Maintenance
- The sump tank must be emptied at the end of each day when the adiabatic function is used.
- Evaporative media must be replaced every 2 years.
- The copper tube bundle must be protected from freeze damage. Dry Coolers will recommend a glycol–water mixture appropriate to the installed location.
- Inspect and comb out bent fins to ensure free air intake.
